Members of the EDTA family of chemicals in solution, greatly effect a solution's electrical environment. They do this by manifesting strong colloidal properties, which can be engineered.
This profound electrical effect is called "Zeta Potential" and is expressed as a voltage determined through the measurement of a colloid's "Drift Velocity" in an electric field.

Reference has only one listing for EDTA (Calcium EDTA*), even though there are
more than 27 different types produced by the Chemical Industry, and several
different types are used by the Medical Profession.

F. Munz first synthesized
EDTA in an effort to create a substitute for Citric Acid* in the mid 1930s.

F. Bernsworth developed a commercial process for synthesizing EDTA and patented process in 1941.
("EDTA") is a synthetic amino acid and was first used in the 1940's
for treatment of heavy metal poisoning. It is widely recognized as effective
for that use as well as certain others, including emergency treatment of hypercalcemia
and the control of ventricular arrhythmias associated with digitalis toxicity.

EDTA has six acidic (acid forming) protons though only four protons participate.
The dry acid form has a Molecular Weight of 292.24.
After the amino acid is synthesized, the "acid form" or pure amino acid is then reacted with any number of other elements, replacing one or more of the hydrogen atoms forming Mono–, Di–, Tri–, or Tetra Valent bonds with one or more atoms, hydroxyl ions, or other ion groups.

EDTA will not fully dissolve until the solution pH is near 8.0
Once fully dissolved, it will mix with acids* and perform its function properly.
[ * EDTA ( Ethylenediaminetetraäcedic acid–tetrasodium salt ) is used to dissolve sulfate deposits from lead acid batteries. The net effect is to lower the cost of battery based electricity by recovering otherwise unusable batteries thus preventing the purchase of new batteries. The EDTA is a dry powder. Use one tablespoon per cell for golf cart batteries such as a Trojan T–105 type battery and twice as much for larger batteries. The EDTA must first be dissolved in water before adding it to the battery. EDTA does not dissolve in battery acid, but will mix with battery acid if it is first dissolved in water. —Reference— ]
90 million pounds of EDTA salts are utilized annually, mostly as a food additive.
A properly mixed and diluted
solution of EDTA and Vitamin C can also be given orally*. ( Only 3–8% of
EDTA taken in tablet form will be absorbed. )
[ * If EDTA is used orally, it should NOT be mixed with a meal or a mineral supplement. Minerals given at the same time will simply be chelated by EDTA and will pass out of the body, so the EDTA will do no good. Several brands of EDTA tablets that are sold through clinics contain minerals, so these should be avoided. Minerals should later be given to replace minerals that are chelated in the blood by EDTA, but these should be given orally at least several hours from the time EDTA is taken. ]
The combined effects of the OH– groups of EDTA and Ascorbic Acid have a profound effect on the Zeta Potential of blood and therefore are able to bring deposits in the cardiovascular system back into solution. The imparted electrical effects of these "Anionic Surfactants" will also breakup blood clots and cause blood cells to move apart and become discrete.
If there is Sufficient Distilled Water intake for the process, the now dissolved materials will be safely removed by the kidneys, or utilized by the body.
Ion exchange is a reversible chemical reaction wherein an ion (an atom or molecule that has lost or gained an electron and thus acquired an electrical charge) from solution is exchanged for a similarly charged ion attached to an immobile solid particle.
Ion exchange reactions are stoichiometric and reversible, and in that way they are similar to other solution phase reactions.
It should be pointed out that the selectivity coefficient is not constant but varies with changes in solution conditions.
Ethylenediaminetetraäcedic acid has been primarily used medically in the treatment of lead, and radioactive metal poisoning, as an anticoagulant in blood used for transfusion, and in other instances where control and investigation of metal ion concentration is desired.
Sailors in the US Navy who painted ships with lead based paint developed Lead Poisoning. Additionally, large quantities of another very toxic material, Mercury is added to the paint for the ship's bottom to keep barnacles from attaching themselves to the hulls.
Interestingly, the U.S. Navy administered EDTA orally to thousands of sailors in the 1940's to help combat lead and heavy metal toxicity. Today it is also used as an antioxidant in foods, as a chelating agent in many pharmaceuticals, cosmeceuticals, plant food and also as an anticoagulant for blood taken for hematological investigations.
Clinical experience with EDTA chelation therapy has convinced substantial numbers of licensed physicians world wide, that it is a safe and effective treatment for atherosclerotic vascular disease, as it consistently improves blood flow and relieves symptoms associated with the disease in greater than 80% of the patients treated.
Many of these physicians surmise that EDTA's effectiveness is a result of its chelating function — removing "Free Radicals" from blood plasma, and blood vessel and artery walls.
Effect of EDTA Chelation on Serum Iron

One hundred and twenty–two patients suffering from various chronic degenerative disorders were evaluated objectively for fasting serum iron values before and after EDTA ( ethylenediamine tetraäcetic acid ) chelation plus multivitamin mineral ( excluding iron ) supplementation. After 30 intravenous 3–gram treatments of EDTA, average serum iron levels dropped 17.5% ( t = 4.230, p < 0.001 ). Abnormally high initial iron decreased 43.1% ( t = 7.602, p < 0.001 ), while low initial iron increased 41% ( t = 3.30, p < 0.010 ).
Comment: Recent Reports in the medical literature suggest high serum iron to be a significant risk factor for heart disease.
Normalizing abnormal cholesterol and high density lipoprotein ( HDL ) levels
In a series of simple but effective experiments, McDonagh, Rudolph, and Cheraskin ( 1982 ) have shown that EDTA infusion has a markedly beneficial effect on this potentially serious problem.
The effects on over 200 patients with varying levels of HDL cholesterol measurements were quite dramatic. Those who initially showed low levels of HDL rose to normal levels, those with normal levels remained unaltered, and those with high levels of LDL ( dangerous ) dropped to normal ranges after EDTA–chelation therapy ( supported with vitamin and mineral supplementation ).
Thus we see a homoeostatic ( balancing, normalizing ) effect after the use of EDTA, since it supported a return towards normal HDL–cholesterol levels, whether the initial abnormality was high or low.
Benefits for some mental problems
Dr Wayne Perry ( 1988 ) comments on one of the beneficial "side effects" of EDTA therapy when he states: "Those who have used EDTA have been impressed by the dramatic effects that can occur in some patients, and this action might be explained by its powerful anti–depressant effect, shown in a double blind trial over and above any placebo action" ( See Kay et al 1984.) In discussing the objective evidence of general improvement amongst patients having EDTA he includes "general alertness, concentration and memory" as common.
Clearly, if circulation to the brain is enhanced the function of that organ should improve. Equally important to mental function would be the removal of heavy metals, the toxicity of which are common causes of a wide range of problems affecting the brain and nervous system. It should therefore not be surprising that EDTA often leads to improved memory and reduced tendency to depression and other apparently "psychological" symptoms.
The research team of McDonagh, Rudolph and Cheraskin have looked at just this aspect of EDTA chelation therapy's effect — the psychotherapeutic benefits. ( McDonagh, Rudolph and Cheraskin, 1984, 1985a, 1985b ) They used a standard medical questionnaire ( Cornell Medical Index — see Brodman et al 1949 ) at the first consultation to allow 139 routine private–practice patients, 83 of whom were male, to answer questions from which "depression" "tension" and "anger" tendencies could be discovered. These same patients completed the same questionnaire at the end of a series of EDTA infusions ( plus multimineral / vitamin support supplementation ) over a two month period. There was a 40 per cent reduction in "depression" indications amongst those patients who showed a tendency towards depression in their first questionnaire. There was a 50 per cent reduction in "tension" symptoms and a 46 per cent reduction in "anger" indications at the end of the treatment period.
The researchers speculate that the improvement was due to overall improvement in cellular nutrition as a result of the enhanced circulation due to this form of treatment. They note that the improvements in emotional status, observed in this study, were superior in degree to any physical improvements noted in their many previous studies.

... free radical damage is frequently the trigger which leads to malignant changes in previously normal cells. Just as the first benefits to circulation of EDTA chelation therapy were discovered during treatment of heavy metal poisoning, so was the way in which this same treatment could help prevent, and indeed treat, cancer discovered.
Writing in a Swiss medical journal in 1976, Dr W Blumen described the strange but potentially very important discovery. In the late 1950s a group of residents of Zurich who lived adjacent to a major traffic route were treated for contamination by lead with EDTA chelation under the auspices of the Zurich Board of Health. These people had all inhaled large amounts of lead–laden fumes and were suffering from a range of symptoms identified as being related to lead poisoning, including stomach ache, fatigue, headache, digestive symptoms, etc. lead deposits were found to be present in their gum tissues and specific changes were found in their urine, linking their condition with high lead levels.
Some years later, in the early 1970s, people living in the same area were being investigated for the incidence of cancer, in an attempt to link the pollution with a higher cancer rate than average. This link was easily established as fully 11 per cent of the residents of the road had died of cancer over the period 1959 to 1972, a rate some 900 per cent above that expected when compared with people living in the same community but not directly affected by lead pollution. The forms of cancer most commonly related involved the lungs, colon, stomach, breast and ovary.
But what of the people previously treated with EDTA back in 1959?
Only one of the 47 people in that group had developed cancer. The cancer rate in people in the contaminated area who had not received EDTA was 600 per cent above that of the group who had had chelation.
Far and away the best protection from lead toxicity and its long–term effects is to avoid it altogether. However, this is of course not always within the control of the individual and a second best bet is to have the lead removed via chelation as a protective measure against its undoubted toxicity which can contribute towards the evolution of cancer.
Australian research scientist John Sterling, who has worked at the famous Issels clinic in Germany, mentions in a personal communication that Issels had noted a marked protective effect against cancer after use of EDTA chelation.
Animal studies ( using mice ) have shown that intravenous EDTA plays a preventive role against cancer, largely, it is thought, through removal of metallic ions which seem to be essential for tumor growth.
Walker and Gordon believe that the prevention offered to the citizens of Zurich was partly as a result of removal of metal ions and of lead ( which can chronically depress immune function ) and also due to the improvement in circulation which chelation produced. Tumors flourish in areas of poor oxygenation and the increase in the levels of this which chelation allows would, they believe, be sufficient to retard cancer development.
Halstead ( 1979 ) points to the significant increase in metal ions found as tissues age and the increased likelihood of cancer developing. There is also a proven link between high levels of certain metals in topsoil and cancer in the same regions. Interestingly, he confirms that most forms of chemotherapy involve drugs, which have chelating effects either directly or as a result of breakdown of their constituents. He quotes experimental studies which show that in some forms of cancer such as Ehrlich's ascites tumor the use of EDTA was significantly able to strip the tumor cells of their heavy protective coat, allowing other mechanisms ( such as protein digesting enzymes ) to destroy the tumors.
At the very least EDTA chelation can be seen to offer a useful line of investigation in cancer prevention, and possibly treatment, in some forms of this disease.
Succimer lessens lead in blood, no gain in IQ

Washington: A drug is effective in lowering the level of lead in the bloodstream of exposed children, but they show no apparent gains in the intelligence quotient ( IQ ) and learning abilities as a result of the treatment.
This has been revealed in a study conducted by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences ( NIEHS ).
The children were given succimer, a drug that is known to reduce the blood level of lead. In addition, the research team attempted to end further exposure by cleaning the children's homes of residual lead. The researchers had hoped to find that these efforts would prevent or reduce lead–induced damage.
Compared to a control group, however, the treated children performed no better on tests of behavior, cognitive development and neuropsychological function.
In a press release, NIEHS director Kenneth Olden said, "The results of the trial show clearly that treatment after the fact does not undo the damage among five– year– olds. We must prevent these children from being exposed in the first place."
Prolonged exposure to lead causes an accumulation of the element in the body. That can result in a variety of mental and physical problems: reading and learning disabilities, speech and language handicaps, mental retardation, kidney disease and heart disease.
"We must prevent these children from being exposed in the first place," Olden said.

[ In the "Natural World" organisms that regularly come in contact with toxic metals, have specific mechanisms for resistance. The genes for these systems are coded on transposons or plasmids. Humans don't have the full complement of these mechanisms, and drugs are used to treat overdoses of these metals. Chelating agents such as EDTA bind the metal many times, with great affinity, greater than that of the target enzyme. The complexes are stable and water soluble, readily excreted and do not enter the metabolism. —Reference— ]
Cardiovascular plaque is comprised basically of two components. There is the mineral component that can be removed using EDTA as an Anionic Surfactant, and there is a fibrous component that some enzymes are able to disassemble.
For over 20 years, the American biochemist, Dr. Steven Taussig, of Honolulu, has been studying the biological effects of the enzyme mixture bromelaine. This enzyme complex — it consists of an entire group of distinct enzymes — is obtained from the middle third of the pineapple root. It can also be obtained from the green, unripe pineapple in large quantities. These bromelaines are able to degrade certain internal substances which may cause infarction (the so-called Prostaglandins E2 and thromboxane), thereby reducing the risk of cardiac infarction and the tendency to heart muscle necrosis, as well as simultaneously eliminating any heart pain. Also, Chinese researchers at the University of Iowa have shown that the supply of bromelaine can mobilize deposits in the blood vessels, and carry them off. Thus, by intensive, long-term therapy with bromelaine, it is possible to "clean out" the coronary arteries from the inside. From the biological point of view, this certainly is a much more intelligent therapy than a bypass operation. In the same manner, it is possible, by supplying larger, continuous doses of bromelaine, to dissolve deposits in the aorta and in leg arteries, as well as thrombosis residues, thus saving many a leg from amputation and even restoring them to normal functioning. The German enzyme preparation "Wobenzyme" is of particular effect in this "pipe cleaning."
The pineapple enzyme bromelaine (not bromelin!), which is absorbed into the bloodstream, can be used without limitation, is as effective eight years later as on the first day, dissolves already existing clots and cleans blood vessel walls, as well as the blood cells already mentioned. "Anavit F3" and "Ananase" are standardized bromelaine preparations. "Wobenzyme" also belongs in this group, even though it must be taken in higher doses. Magnesium, which can be bound to the membranes, such as magnesium aspartate, orotate and citrate, has a strong thrombosis-inhibiting effect. Orthodox medicine, as a rule, does not offer it. Wobenzyme is a very funny invention. It appears most desirable to have pancreatin absorbed into the blood stream since it rather specifically attacks cancer cells, as well as fibrin layers, clots and fresh thromboses.
Unfortunately, pancreatin is not resorbed. It will mainly stay in the intestine for the acknowledged purpose of digestion. Attempts to infuse pancreatin intravenously have largely failed because of poor tolerance and even shock. In contrast to animal-derived enzymes like pancreatin, plant-derived enzymes like bromelaine (from pineapple) are easily resorbed. If bromelaine and pancreatin are administered in a fixed combination, astonishingly, a part of the pancreatin will appear in the blood stream! A possible explanation for this is that the presence of one enzyme (the bromelaine) will neutralize the electrical properties of the other enzyme (pancreatin) and thus transiently do away with the blocking mechanism, which normally prevents the passage from the intestine into the blood.
The pineapple enzyme bromelaine is highly effective in the deactivation of antibodies and prostaglandin E-2 . Thus it is also no wonder that the bromelaine are unusually effective in the treatment of chronic rheumatism. Anavit F-3, and Ananase 100 and Wobenzyme are the names of these preparations. Already in the 18th century, the windjammer captains reported on the excellent antirheumatic-effect of the juice from the pineapple root and the green pineapple fruit. By the way, the juice from green, unripe pineapple is very effective abortifacient.
Since electric force is poorly understood by our culture, and since it is the primary force that allows life to manifest, we need to review what we know about it today.
The Electrical Force is a Complementary Force — A Binary Force
· Unlike charges attract — Annihilate Each Other if they come in contact
· Like charges repel — Maintain Separation – Discreteness
Many times you want to utilize EDTA's ability to be a powerful "Anionic Surfactant", and its propensity for "Ion Exchange" — which is a reversible chemical reaction wherein an ion ( an atom or molecule that has lost or gained an electron and thus acquired an electrical charge ) from a solution is exchanged for a similarly charged ion attached to an immobile solid particle.
EDTA can interact with a "solid" or "semi–solid" atom or group and then bring it into solution. EDTA then — in a solution properly diluted and at the right pH — can release the Ion and go "fetch" another Ion group from the plaque material, thereby bringing it into solution also.
Chelating agents, such as EDTA, can also bind the metal many times with great affinity, greater than that of the target enzyme. Of course when this happens, the EDTA molecule can no longer act as an "Anionic Surfactant". The resulting complexes are stable and water soluble, readily excreted and do not enter the metabolism.
The properties and behavior of a material can be greatly affected by the Electrical Charge on its surface. For example, adhesion to the surface ( desirable or otherwise ) may be enhanced by a high surface charge and the incorrect charge may make the application of a surface coating* impossible.
[ * The Zeta Potential is a controlling parameter in manufacturing processes such as adhesion, filtration, coatings, lubrication and corrosion.
The Smoluchowski equation for electrophoresis predicts that the
electrophoretic velocity of a particle is proportional to its zeta potential
but not its size, shape, or orientation.
Zeta Potential controls the ability of a liquid to carry material in suspension and plays a large part in the formation of chemical bonds.
An electrical charge of –30 to –80 millivolts creates a very stable liquid that will carry a high load of particles in suspension ( high ZP ). The closer the negative electrical charge is to –80 mv., the better the Zeta Potential. Milk and blood are two of natures stable solutions with high Zeta Potential.
Healthy blood contains 20–25 grams per liter of a natural colloid called "Albumin". Albumin is a very powerful "Anionic Surfactant" — it has a very high negative value Zeta Potential.
Albumin's function is to "coat" the walls of blood vessels and arteries. It also "coats" the surfaces of blood cells. This "coat" provides a strong negative electrical field on these surfaces. Since like electrical charges repel each other, this electrical quality produces "slippery" tubes for blood to flow in and an anti–collision mechanism that keeps blood cells separated.
Good separation between cells is required for several reasons. For cells to do their work, which includes carrying chemical messengers and cations, the cell and all suspendoids need a "jacket" of water as you'll see in the graphic below.
A hydrated anionic surfactant is then able to carry the essential elemental nutrients we call cations. Over 30 different elements are required to build and maintain a healthy body and many of them are multi–valent cations. When these elements become detached from their transport suspendoid (blood cells or colloidals) they become what we call "Free Radicals". A "Free Radical" is a cationic element in the wrong place at the wrong time. When elements become "free" in this manner, their positive electrical charge can "Raise Havoc" with the blood's chemical and cellular processes.
They can cause blood cells to "clump together" and block capillaries.
They can electrically interfere with a cell's membrane, restricting or stopping the passage of the critical products for metabolism and the chemical messengers needed for cellular communication — This can cause a cell to "suffocate", "starve" or "miss–communicate".
Free Radicals can, by neutralizing the electrical charge of the Albumin coating the walls of our blood vessels (etc.), create "sites" with a positive charge for materials to gather and come out of solution, thereby forming what is referred to as Plaque. Fibrous substances can gather at these sites also.
What comes out of solution and how fast it does is directly related to the concentration of the solution, its pH and Zeta Potential. Shift any one of these and the "site" will grow with different materials depending ... or the "site" will be dissolved, and at some point, the "offending cation" will be re–assimilated to an appropriate transport mechanism.
In order for you to acquire a full understanding of how EDTA functions, its proper mixing and administration, you need to have a complete understanding of Diffusion and Osmosis.
Water's unique geometry does give it
some very interesting properties. Water's two hydrogen atoms are not across
from each other as one might expect from the "Ideal of Symmetry" or
charge distribution. Some atoms have electrons in
orbits that very closely resemble those of comets, as well as Earth type
orbits. Atoms also have a strong preference as to the sequence in which the
different possible orbital regions are populated with electrons.
Oxygen was the lucky atom that got to fill its electron orbitals in a manner that produced this interesting geometry.
Water's Hydrogen atoms are grouped to
one side. This allows a small electric charge
differential to manifest across the "two ends" of the water
This electric charge also allows the
water molecule to "wiggle" its way between certain atoms in salts.
This allows the atoms of the salt to manifest their "Ionic Potential"
and it's the atomic ionic potential in solutions that creates the possibility for biological

active sites and the out–stretched geometry of several of its forms,
allows it to "control" a large number of water molecules. As you will
see in the following animations, this feature greatly effects the solution's

Understanding the Concept of Valance
Understanding Osmosis and the Physical Chemistry of water, still doesn't quite provide you with all the tools that you need to understand Zeta Potential.
Zeta Potential is expressed in terms of a voltage and there are two little guys in the Atomic World that are in CHARGE of that energy force.
The Electron and the Positron. The Positron normally lives a virtual existence inside the proton in the atom's nucleus. We call the electric tension of the electron, "Negative" and the tension charge of the positron we call "Positive".
Unfortunately, we also talk about an atom's "Valance Possibilities" in terms of positive and negative energies. This is not correct and produces much confusion in the understanding of chemical bonds and Zeta Potential.
What we call "Chemical Bonds" are actually special Symbiotic Arrangements between atoms that are on a quest for "Dynamic Stability"!
Usually, all the atoms in the arrangement are electrically in balance. They both have an equal number of positrons and electrons. What isn't in balance are the atom's electron orbitals.
The "Universal Atomic Template" has a definite preference for the order and way that electrons are put in orbit around the atom's nucleus. The atom's ultimate goal is to have two electrons, with complementary spins, in each orbital level, but the "Atomic Template" has different criteria for filling the atom's orbits.
It just doesn't go — 1,2 – 1,2 – 1,2 ... — when filling orbitals. The orbits are filled with respect to the amount of momentum that is required to keep the electrons in their different orbits.
This means that it is possible for an atom to have 2 – 3 – 4 ... orbits with only one electron in them. The laws of inertia also apply between the atom's nucleus and the orbiting electrons. This mechanical imbalance causes the atomic system to wobble or vibrate. Chemical bonds allow atoms to share electrons thereby reducing vibration and increasing stability.
It is quite possible for the "Mechanically Balancing Electron" to come from an outside source, or an electron can be totally removed from the atom's system with an outside source of energy. When this happens we have created an "Ion". Ions can transport an electric current through a medium.
These electrical interplays are happening so fast, and with such randomness, that it is hard to picture them in an environment as dynamic as water.
Our understanding of Zeta Potential can be refined by observing some of these electrical effects in a more static structure, such as the crystal lattices that we create for our "Solid State Devices". This simple, unencumbered explanation of electron movement in solid–state materials, can be generalized into the world of Zeta Potential.
Today, we use "Laser Doppler Diode Instruments" and our fast computers, to accurately and precisely measure the "Drift Velocity" of the colloid or cell when placed within an electric field of known voltage.
This drift velocity is then expressed as a " VOLTAGE " that relates to the total electric effect of all the electrons traveling in their unique orbits. All this buzzing around that all these electrons do, produces a "Negative Electric Field" around the atomic system. This virtual space is called "The Electron Cloud" or "Virtual Electron Shell".
The "Virtual Electric Barrier" that this activity produces, is what creates Mother Nature's "Atomic Anti–Collision System". I like to call it "Mother Nature's Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers".
The Anti–Collision Effects that the Virtual Shell imparts, is not anything like driving into a brick wall. It is soft and gentle, but very firm, in it's influences in the atomic world.
The Anti–Collision Influence comes on very slowly, and increases logarithmically as the distance decreases linearly, thereby preventing "Hard Knocks" from happening in the atomic molecular world. The "Zeta Potential Energy" gently—firmly pushes the systems apart. This can be a problem if you actually want to link atoms together, but our primary interest Here, is to keep Blood Cells and Mineral Salts, etc. from "Clumping" [ sticking ] together and coming out of solution.

Specific conductance is a measure of the ability of a water solution to conduct an electrical current. Specific conductance is the reciprocal of specific resistance in ohms and is reported in microsiemens per centimeter (us/cm) at 25 degrees Celsius (C). Specific conductance is related to the type and concentration of ions in solution and can be used for approximating the dissolved-solids content of the water. Commonly, the concentration of dissolved solids ( in "milligrams per liter" mg/l, more commonly expressed as "parts per million" ppm ) is about 65 percent of the specific conductance ( in microsiemens ). This relation is not constant from stream to stream, and it may vary in the same stream with changes in the composition of the water. —USGS—
Very pure water doesn't conduct electricity, but as soon as any substance that ionizes in water is added, you have a conductor owing to the fact that the ionized atoms in the water solution carry the current.
Knowledge of this property gives one a valuable tool for controlling chemical reactions. For one thing, ionized atoms experience acceleration when an electric field is set up within the solution. Ionized Atoms move toward the charge of opposite sign. This effect is used in electroplating to provide a smooth even coating of atoms on your target material. The electric force causes the atoms to move out of the solution at concentration levels far below those of a saturated solution.
Reversing the charge/current will cause the atoms to go back into solution from your material. Electricity can be used to bring materials into solution or to take them out again.
Electroplating can be done without the use of an external power source and wires. "Electro–less Solutions" are available that have their internal electrical forces balanced in such a manner, that when a suitable object is placed in the solution, the metal ions will come out of solution and coat the object.
Again, if the object were to be connected to a proper external power source, the "plated atoms" will come off the object again. And again, if the object were to be placed in an ionic solution with the right properties, the "plated atoms" would also come off again.
This is an important lesson, because all the laws of physics that rule the mineral kingdom are also at work in some way in our bodies. The inside of our body's "pipes" can become coated, even totally plugged, when materials come out of solution. This Process is REVERSABLE !
Dr. T. C. McDaniel has reported successful results with thousands of patients. His method is to administer an I.V. solution with the correct electrical properties — Zeta Potential — to bring into solution the problem material. This method is based on the applied craft of Colloidal Science, known and widely used in many branches of chemistry. Dr. McDaniel's method involves using di-sodium EDTA and ascorbic acid as Anionic Surfactants to change the Zeta Potential of blood plasma. This increased negative value of Zeta Potential is able to bring materials that have come out of solution, back into solution again.

What does the soap do? – It makes the water wetter. – How can wet water get wetter?
We add something to the water that changes the electrical properties of the solution, which then makes it easier for the water molecules to wiggle their way between the unwanted "dirt particles". Adding a surface–active agent such as a detergent can decrease surface tension, but this will not increase water's carrying capacity unless it changes the basic colloidal chemistry of the liquid by adding a material with negative ions.

Here is a case where the classic notation inhibits the understanding of the subject.
The reason atoms form chemical bonds has more to do with mechanics than it does with electricity. Hydrogen's positive notation when classed as a Cation, is not because it has two positrons and only one electron — hydrogen has only one positron in its nucleus — it is because with only one electron in orbit, it wobbles all over the place and atoms have a strong desire not to — Inertia you know.
The nature of hydrogen's electron orbit makes it a perfect candidate to receive an additional electron ( if the spin is right ) to achieve dynamic balance for the hydrogen's atomic system. Because it can receive an electron it is considered to be a positive entity and is called a Cation. ( Electropositive )
On the other side of the binary is the Anion. Chlorine is classed as an Anion. Chlorine has an electron in a somewhat unstable orbit that it would love to share. Since it is providing the electron, it is classed as an Anion. ( Electronegative )
When Hydrogen and Chlorine get together, they share the electron in a figure 8 orbital that allows them to achieve a symbiotic dynamic stability.
Hydrochloric acid ( H+Cl– ), is what our bodies produce to electrify our stomach fluids. But pure HCl can't do the job by itself.
In order to achieve good dynamic stability, the hydrogen atom and chlorine atom cuddle up real close. It takes water to intervene in this relationship, to allow the electric force to manifest and do its work. The water molecules cuddle up to the hydrogen and chlorine atoms, like so many children wanting to get in on their parent's hugs.
So, what about the Flower Vase !
Adding a little HCl ( or vinegar ) to the pure water in your vase will activate the water's electrical potential giving the solution the power to unlock the atomic bonds that are holding the minerals to the side of your vase.
