Molybdic Acid: H₂MoO₄ • H₂O; mol. wt. 179.98. Mo 53.32%, MoO₃ 79.98%. Anhydrous form 89.99%, H₂O 10.06%. For the anhydrous: Mo 59.24%, MoO₃ 88.88%, H 1.24%. Can also be obtained without H₂O.

White powder. d. 3.1. Sparingly soluble in cold, more in hot water; soluble in NH₄OH, H₂SO₄, fixed alkalies.

Molybdic Acid: 85%. Consists largely of an ammonium molybdate. Contains 84-86% MoO₃. It is the most widely used form of molybdic acid."

White or slightly yellow powder. Insoluble or partly soluble in water; soluble in ammonia or solns. of fixed alkali hydroxides.

Use: Principally for the determination of phosphorus or phosphate and lead; also in glazes for ceramics.
