About our Company Past and Present
Mission StatementUMF's goal is to be a leading manufacturer of high quality wear resistant components. Our primary focus is customer satisfaction through exceptional performance.History:A foundry has operated at our current location for more than 100 years. Experience gained in producing abrasion resistant irons (white iron) in the late 1800's was the foundation for what is today's United Machine & Foundry, a company dedicated to abrasion, corrosion, and heat resistant iron castings. Equipment:UMF has kept pace with industry advancements in equipment and technology. Growing as the needs of our customers have grown. We utilize two BBC furnaces a digital spectrometer control chemistries. There are four molding centers, two green sand squeezer lines, a Hunter 20-C Automatic Molding machine, and an Osborn cope and drag molding machine, as well a no bake, chemically bonded sand molding line with sand reclamation. We offer these molding lines to provide our customers with the best fit & price, meeting casting requirements with reference to cost, high or low volume, or tight tolerances. Quality:Our Quality concept is based on what our customer says it should be. We begin with computer programs for gating and risering, assuring sound castings with delay-free first run sampling. All iron heats are confirmed by the A.R.L. Spectrometer, assuring accurate chemistry. A four-person Quality Control Department includes a QC Manager, an engineer and two inspectors/auditors. This staff confirms the dimensions, chemistry, and the hardness of the first-run castings, and assures adherence to customer standards of production quality. S.P.C. is used on 45 variables to control processes involving sands, mold hardness, chemistry and iron temperatures. Operations are guided by the UMF Quality Standards Manual which parallels the requirements of ISO 9002. This folder includes a copy of the manual's Table of Contents for review. If desired, a numbered copy of the complete Quality Standards Manual will be furnished upon an initial quotation request. Service:UMF maintains an enviable reputation for service to the rocks and roads, coal and mining industries as well as major O.E.M. firms in the cement and asphalt industries. We strive to be responsive to all inquiries for quotations, order information or expediting. We tell you what we can do, and we will follow through.
